10 Questions with Kirsten Dunst
|
'Dunst' means 'fog' in German. And after spending time with Kirsten Dunst, a deep, lovesick fog is exactly what she leaves you in. One of the most sought-after actresses in film today, Kirsten started out a young Ford model, then began acting (appearing in over 70 commercials). She made her film debut in 1989, in New York Stories, but attained worldwide stardom in her early teens when she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award with her chilling-yet-hilarious performance in Interview with the Vampire. (The role also won her an MTV Award for "Breakthrough Performance.")
Kirsten was voted one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People of 1995, and has only gotten more lovely since.
She exels at comedy in films like Get Over It and Bring It On, but can also excel at drama in the upcoming Crazy/Beautiful, and suspense in Peter Bogdanovich's thriller The Cat's Meow. Soon she'll expand her range into big budget action pictures, with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
Kirsten is now developing her own production company with her mother called "Wooden Spoon Productions." The name symbolizes women and creativity, and was inspired by her grandmother. If you ask us, nothing symbolizes creative women better than Kirsten.
TEN QUESTIONS
|
SportsHollywood: We understand that you are a big Lakers fan.
DUNST: I am such a fan of the Lakers! I love to go to the games with my friends. Plus they always have really good food at the games.
SportsHollywood: What advice would you give Shaq to improve his free throw shooting?
DUNST: Oh I am definitely not in any position to be giving Shaq free throw shooting advice, but maybe he just needs to really focus on the basket and become one with the ball. I hear it's all in your wrist!
SportsHollywood: What was it like working with Sophia Coppola?
DUNST: I loved working with Sophia. She's a good friend of mine and an amazing director with a very distinct style. I think the way Virgin Suicides was shot and put together the images are almost poetic. Sophia is so talented and very young for all of her accomplishments. I love
that about her.

SportsHollywood: Rate the hunk appeal of the male lead characters in your films: Berke in Get Over It; Louis de Pointe du Lac in Interview with the Vampire; Richard Nixon in Dick:
DUNST: 1. Richard Nixon- Because he was a man of power
2. Berke- Because he was a hopeless and awkward romantic
3. Louis de Pointe du Lac- Because he was an older man with eternal youth.
SportsHollywood: What were you like in high school: Like Kelly in Get Over It, or more like the cheerleader in Bring It On? (We assume you weren't like Claudia the vampire.)
DUNST: Hey, it wasn't that long ago that I was in high school! I think I was probably more like Kelly in high school. Like my character Kelly, I have always enjoyed writing and music.
SportsHollywood: Ever do any Shakespearean theatre, like in the film?
DUNST: No, and I have always wanted to do theater but it seems like I am always working.
SportsHollywood: Ever have a drama teacher like Martin Short?
DUNST: I personally never did, but I think everyone can relate somewhere back in their life to knowing a person like Martin Short's character. He is so funny in this movie!
SportsHollywood: Did you do any training to be a cheerleader in Bring It On?
DUNST: I worked my butt off in that movie! I mean those girls (cheerleaders) work really hard. I had training but I didn't do any of the crazy stunts that the real cheerleaders did. That takes years of training.
SportsHollywood: What are your favorite teen films?
DUNST: I love Grease.
SportsHollywood: Who are your biggest influences as an actress?
DUNST: Jodi Foster and Michelle Pfeiffer and Drew Barrymore. All incredible women and all incredible actresses.
