10 Questions with Tim Salmon

Tim Salmon is the Anaheim Angels. They have taken on his character and personality, quietly becoming a force in the American League.

In 1993, he was the American League Rookie of the Year. Then in 1995, Tim finished in the top 10 in thirteen A.L. hitting categories, including 3rd in Average (.330) , 4th in Slugging Percentage (.594, best mark ever by Angels player), 4th in Total Bases (319) and 2nd in multi-hit Games (55). In the 2000 season, he hit .291 and tied his career-high homer total of 34. He just keeps getting better, and a triple crown (batting average/home runs/runs batted in) looms in the future.

200
Salmon hits his 200th home run.
He has become one of the league's best players with quiet dignity and grace, and his love for the game is still strong. He laughingly calls his trophy room the "Dig Me Room." It has plenty of awards that Tim has won himself, but it's also filled with bats, balls and autographs from other players. There are no less than three Nolan Ryan autographed baseballs, a ball signed by the 1994 American League All-Star team and signed bats (game-used) from George Brett, Bo Jackson and Kirby Puckett. Tim's love of football is represented by footballs signed by Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. (Tim's brother, Mike Salmon, played safety with San Francisco 49ers.)

Tim has recently signed on to promote the Boot Camp For New Dads for rookie daddies-to-be to learn how to be veteran daddies-that-are. He's a proven vet in this field, too: Tim and his wife, Marci, have four children: Twins Ryan and Kaitlin, and their sister Callie and brother Jacob.

SALMON: Actually, they're both pretty tiring. If I had to choose one, I'd say fatherhood...I have four kids, including twins under a year old.

SALMON: Yes and no. I don't really try to teach them anything yet but we do go out and play frequently. We just try to have fun together.

SportsHollywood: How is your recovery from surgery coming along? (We wish you the best of course!)

SALMON: Thank you...I'm feeling great. I was in a sling for a day but I've recovered really quickly. The doctors still want me to take it easy but I'm feeling pretty normal.
