ON THE LINE WITH LANCE AND JOEY

Producers Wendy Thorlakson, Rich Hull and co-producer Joe Anderson sat down with SportsHollywood and discussed what it was like to get "*NSYNC" with Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, a film crew and 50,000 extras while filming "ON THE LINE."

SH: Were there any problems on the set trying to keep the fans away?

Wendy: A few fans who had an inside source and knew the whole shooting schedule. But Lance and Joey have great bodyguards, so nothing got out of hand. In fact, some of the production assistants would corral up the fans and wait 'til Lance was done with his scene, and then Lance would go over and meet them and sign autographs.

SH: Are the guys interesting in acting full time?

Wendy: Joey definitely wants to pursue acting. He has a great agent who is always sending him scripts. Joey has another movie coming out soon, My Big Fat Greek Wedding with Tom Hanks' company. Lance is interested in the acting, but aspires more to produce and direct.

SH: Did the actors try and shake their image as singers while doing the movie?

Joe: They just wanted to concentrate on being actors. But they definitely had fun with the music...in fact they put two original *NSYNC songs in the movie and on the soundtrack, as well as some solo stuff. Lance and Joey also worked hard to get Mandy Moore, Britney and BB Mak to contribute music for the soundtrack.

SH: What was your favorite scene in "On the Line?"

Rich: It wasn't in the movie but it is on the DVD. It was the scene where Jerry Stiller calls Lance a schmo.

SH: Do you sometimes forget how young these guys are?

Joe: I forget how old I am. They are very smart, savvy guys and it's astonishing to see just how unaffected they are.

SH: Have the guys ever acted before or is this their first project?

Wendy: They have appeared on 7th Heaven, Clueless, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Saturday Night Live, and some voices on The Simpsons. Lance had a cameo in Zoolander and Joey just did a film called My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

SH: Where did you find Emmanuelle?

Wendy: I saw her in a film at the Sundance Festival and approached her manager. I told her we had a film in development with *NSYNC, and that I would be interested in Emmanuelle. She called every month until the project got made. Emmanuelle came in and read and the role was hers.

SH: Were there any pranks on the set?

Rich: Yes, because it would get so hot under the big lights on the set, the wardrobe people would put maxi pads under (Lance's) armpits to absorb his sweat. At the end of the day, Lance loved to secretly stick the pads on people's backs with "Lance's armpit was here". Eric Bross (the director) even did a whole on-camera interview one time with one stuck to him!

SH: Were there any problems with the schedule?

Wendy: There was a chemical fire and we couldn't go into the studio. Lance was going on tour and we had to shoot something that day, otherwise we'd run out of time. So we decided to shoot the scene with them playing baseball. But it was below-zero weather, so we put a BBQ pit at second base so that the actors could huddle around it while delivering their lines. The scene was originally written to be shot on a hot day, but it was so cold that you could see all the actors' breaths. So we did a little last minute rewriting and called it a "crisp, Autumn day."

SH: Any other fun inside facts you can tell us about?

Wendy: Lance wanted to get to know the cast better, so he hosted a Murder Mystery Party. He posted signs about the party and he even cooked dinner himself.
