Roger
Moore
"Roger
Moore is a pussy cat compared to Sean... He's got charm. Roger has grown into
the part. It's not the way I think Bond should be, and it's not the old Bond that
we all loved. But it's a Bond that's going down very well with the public, there's
no question about that."
- Guy Hamilton, Bond film director
"White
teeth."
- Roger Moore, when asked what would be different about his Bond
from Sean Connery's.
"To me, the Bond situations are so ridiculous,
so outrageous. I mean, this man is supposed to be a spy and yet, everybody knows
he's a spy. Every bartender in the world offers him martinis that are shaken,
not stirred. What kind of serious spy is recognized everywhere he goes? It's outrageous.
So you have to treat the humor outrageously as well. My personality is entirely
different than previous Bonds. I'm not that cold-blooded killer type. Which is
why I play it mostly for laughs."

"In
Live and Let Die, I didn't do any of that tough, cold behavior because
that was what Sean Connery would do. My personality is entirely different from
his.I'm not that cold-blooded killer that Sean can do so well - which is why I
play it for laughs. Sean, I think, said I go through the door looking for the
laugh. People are going to compare. Still, though, 4000 actors have played 'Hamlet.'
Chacun a son gout (to each his own)."
- Roger Moore: "Starlog"
"It's
very difficult to get in touch with the character by reading Fleming, because
there's very little about Bond."
- Roger Moore, "For Your Eyes Only" press
conference
"Roger, however, is extraordinary in that he cannot run. He
literally cannot run -- it looks as if he's got a broomstick up his backside.
When he told me that he couldn't run I said, 'It's easy, just one foot in front
of the other.' I didn't know what he meant until our first shot with Roger in
New Orleans running away from something -- and the whole unit burst out laughing.
I nearly cried."
