Private Domain was formed in San Diego in 1985 by guitarist/ songwriter Jack Butler and vocalist/ songwriter Paul Shaffer, featuring Dean Smith on bass and Jake Najor on drums.

They have been a consistent Southern California live attraction, recently appearing at San Diego Street Scene, KGB Skyshow, and other community events, as well as performing regularly at many SD night clubs including Dick's Last Resort, where they have maintained a "house band" identity every Wed & Thurs (plus many Tues, Fri, and Sat nights) for quite some time.
