Singer/songwriter/producer Maria Vidal was born Maria Elena Fernandez-Vidal on August 1, 1960 to Spanish parents, her father in the United States Airforce and her mother a housewife. The family moved quite a bit during her childhood, living in Japan, Germany, New Mexico, Los Angeles and New York City. It was in New York that she started her music career in the Band 'Desmond Child & Rouge' in the mid 70's, and they released two albums by the end of that decade. Maria also contributed backup vocals to Kiss vocalist Paul Stanley's 1978 solo album. Maria was then working on the songs for a solo album when she was offered the title song for the soundtrack of the film, "Body Rock" in 1984. In a matter of weeks, it hit the US dance charts, and went on to be a big hit in Europe. Maria then left the United States to promote the single abroad. When she returned home, however, she found that she no longer had a record deal. "I think it may be more difficult for a female artist in America to really come out," she said at the time. "I don't want the music to misrepresent who I am as an artist or person. It's not like I'm some 'cute little chick singer' who's appeared on the scene and just wants to sing some songs. It's always been important to me to sing the right kind of song, to say the right kind of things." It was soon after that Maria was hired so sing for "a modern day vampire movie," and was even seen onscreen, as the singer in an all-girl band, performing two songs: "Just one Kiss" and "Hands Off."

After appearing in "Once Bitten," Maria then appeared on Stevie Nicks' 1985 single "I Can't Wait", and as a backup singer on Nick's solo album, 'Rock A Little'. Vidal then went solo with a self-titled debut album recorded in 1987. The album included the single "Do Me Right" written by ex-bandmate Desmond Child and wrote and was featured in a song for Tupac Shakur. Vidal also wrote "Every Time it Rains" for Ace of Base and "In the Grand Canyon" for Reggaeton artist, James Joseph. In 1989, she wrote the Belinda Carlisle hit "Summer Rain". Also in 1989 she sang on The Smithereens' top 40 hit 'A Girl Like You'.

In 2008, she released a new song, "Green", which was written for an international festival at the American School in London and made available for purchase as an MP3 on her website. In May, 2009 Maria Vidal announced the release of her new album Living in Radical Radiance. The album can be downloaded on her home page or can be ordered through the page's shop. Vidal is married to music producer and songwriter Rick Nowels.

"HANDS OFF"
Performed by Maria Vidal
Written by Tommy Dunbar and Michael Boyd

I've been watching you for long enough
To know your making a thing for the one I love!
Now I don't blame you for looking,
But you better not touch. Hands Off!
He belongs to me!
Hands Off!
He's my private property!
Hands Off!
I'll tell you just one last time:
The boy is mine!

I'm in no mood for competition,
I've got no time for playing games.
I've no intention to share him,
With anyone else.

Oh! Hands Off!
He belongs to me!
Hands Off!
He's my private property,
Hands Off!
I'll tell you just one last time:
The boy is mine.

(Instrumental)

Ha, Ha, Hands Off!

(Instrumental continued)

Hands Off!
He belongs to me,
Hands Off!
He's my private property,
Hands Off!
I'll tell you just one last time:
The boy is mine.

Hands Off!
He belongs to me,
Hands Off!
He's my private property,
Hands Off!
I'll tell you just one last time:
The boy is mine!

Hands Off!
Ooohh the boy, oohh the boy is mine!
He's mine! He's mine! He's mine!
The boy is mine!
