The first official game released in the James Bond video game series was back in 1983, a side-scrolling action game developed by Parker Brothers (known more for board games than video games) simply named James Bond 007, in which players controled Bond's amphibious Lotus (or Aston Martin... hard to tell) to clear four movie-inspired stages, based on Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and The Spy Who Loved Me. The aim of the game was to shoot airbourne and grounded enemies while dodging their incredibly slow-moving attacks and avoiding obstacles. Later it was revealed that the game started out as a movie-tie in for Octopussy before someone quietly recycled it into this mess. (Why not? You can't tell what's happening, anyway).

As the legendary secret agent, you must complete three missions. In Diamonds are Forever, you must pilot your craft along the Nevada desert, shooting down the various things that come at you. When you find and land on the oil rig, you'll have stopped Seraffino and saved the girl. In Moonraker, you must destroy Drax's three satellites while avoiding the space shuttles launched from a lake. If the shuttles reach orbit, they'll turn into poison bombs that drop back into the lake which will kill you unless you submerge. In The Spy who Loved Me, you must destroy Stromberg's undersea laboratory and rescue Anya, while avoiding subs, helicopters, and oil tankers. After completing the third mission, the game ends and you receive your agent rating, with 007 being the highest.
