FILMS TIE FOR PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD AT FORT MYERS BEACH FILM
FESTIVAL
Standing
room only theater audiences at the Third Annual Fort Myers Beach Film
Festival chose two features as their favorites - "BachelorMan" and "Hungry
Hearts," two regional premieres among the 40 films shown at the festival.
The awards were announced Saturday at an elegant awards gala honoring
Actress Hilary Duff as the festival's "Rising Star." Veteran actor Tim
Curry was there to accept the "Star Achievement" award for his wide range
of both stage and screen performances that have entertained audiences
worldwide.
Directed by John Putch with producers Tad Labeck, Karen
Bailey, Rodney Lee Conover, and Helen Woo, "BachelorMan" is a comedy
starring David DeLuise who has honed his dating skills only to meet his
match in the role played by Missi Pyle. Actor Robert Romanus, who also
attended the festival, plays a corporate executive at the firm where
"BachelorMan" works. The film was written by Rodney Lee Conover, Jeff
Hause, and Dave Hines.
Another award-winning comedy "Hungry
Hearts," starring Susan Blakely and Marjory Graue, was directed by Rolf
Schrader and produced by Gaynelle Sloman, Hagai Shaham, Timothy Wurtz, and
Glenn Benest, who also wrote the script. The hero played by actor Greg
Gardner, is a celebrated gourmet chef, who caters a party for four women
in the throes of mid-life crises.
Three-way ties acknowledged the
Best Short with the awards going to: "Niche," directed by Paul Emani;
"Proper Urinal Etiquette" an animation by Kurt Nellis; and "Puddlejumper,"
directed by Dave West and produced by Chris Marshall.
Two
documentaries tied for the top award-"Rudyland" about former NY Mayor Rudy
Giuliani and directed by Matthew Carnahan and John Philp and "Almost
Elvis," about Elvis Presley impersonators, directed by John Paget.
Directors of the Third Annual Fort Myers Beach Film Festival chose their
favorite as "BachelorMan," giving the independent film two awards to take
home from Fort Myers Beach.
